    Referee RAP -  2009
Referee RAP is a new meet-up organized specifically for Region 174 referees to get together to share information and continue their training.

Welcome to the Referee page for North Valley, Region 174, a part of Section 10, Area V [i.e., 10 V 174] located in Granada Hills, California. Will Lieb is the Regional Referee Administrator, who may be contacted at referee@ayso174.org .

Region 174 offers Refereeing opportunities for youth games having participants between 4 and 19 years of age. Referee training is offered to candidates who are at least 11 years of age.

Junior referee training is available during the fall soccer season and at other times during the year. Junior referees receive 2 hours of class room training plus on-field supervision to enable them to referee youth games for players that are under 8 years of age. Contact Craig Forry, youth referee administrator, at corforlaw@aol.com for additional information.

All Referees are urged to wear the uniform properly. Please wear the jersey tucked into the shorts, wear referee shorts [not player shorts] around the waist and not pulled down, wear black socks with while stripes, and predominantly black shoes. Also, when you are at the fields but are not refereeing, please replace your referee jersey with another shirt.

    Referee Game Assignments

Region 174 is now using a new service for managing referee assignments, called GameOfficials.net.  In order to use the system all referees will first need to register themselves with the system.  Once registered, you will then be able to assign yourself to games up to 6 days in advance of the games being played.

    Registration Instructions
Step One – Register on the site
    1. Use your web-browser to go to http://www.gameofficials.net
    2. Click the green “New Official?” button in the left menu
    3. Enter group number “1070″ and access code (hint – number of our region) and click continue.  This will ensure you are registering with our region.
    4. Next, fill out the login information form and click the “SAVE (Create New Account)” button. You should then see a “Welcome” confirmation, and your information will be emailed to you.

Step Two – Logging In for the first time
After registering you will automatically be taken to the login screen, but in the future you can simply go to http://www.gameofficials.net and login via the form in the upper right.
    1. Enter the username and password you selected in the registration process, and click “Log in”.
    2. Agree to the terms of Service
    3. Next you will be asked to fill out security questions should you want to retrieve a forgotten password.  I highly suggest you do this, as it is inevitable that you’ll forget your password at 10pm Friday evening, and while I’m happy to reset your password for you, I party every Friday night and probably won’t be available (uh not really, but you get the idea).  If you don’t want to set up security questions, just click the “I Do Not Want to Complete the Security Questions” check box the click “Continue”.
    4. Next you’ll be asked for some additional contact information, some of which will be required, such as, phone numbers.  Please provide as much information as you can.  Please ignore the RefPay username and account information.  IMPORTANT: Open the “Cell/Pager/Email Notices” section by clicking the “+” and fill out your preferences and cell phone information if you have it.  This can be added later if you want.  Click “SAVE (Modify User)” when you’re done.
    5. You are not logged in, and you should see your username in the upper right corner of the screen.
You will not be asked to fill out the security questions or contact information again.

    Self Assign Instructions
Instructions for Assigning Yourself to Games
    1. Ensure you have registered with GameOfficials.net using our group number (1070), then log into gameofficials.net with the username and password you chose through the registration process.
    2. Verify that you are assigned to the REGULAR FALL SEASON – FS2009 by going to My Preference > League/Tournament Preference, and make sure the REGULAR FALL SEASON – FS 2009 box is checked.  Once this is done, you will not have to do this again for the rest of the season.
    3. View list of available games by going to the Self-Assign section.  If you don’t see a list of games automatically, open Game Filters at the top of the page, and set the End Date to 12/31/09.  You should not need to reset this the rest of the season.
    4. You should now see a list of games ready for assignment.  Simply click on the assignment you’d like (e.g. Referee, AR1, AR2) to assign yourself to a game.  The system will not recognize double bookings at the time you assign yourself, so be sure you don’t pick two games at the same time.

That’s it!!!  Per your preferences, you should get an email confirmation, and possibly a text message if you added cell phone information.  Remember, your assignment will still need to be approved by our referee administrator, Will Lieb, so be sure to watch your email for notifications if you’ve been unassigned or reassigned.  And, as always, check in at the Ref Table Saturday mornings to verify your assignments.

    TIPS:
You can sort the game list by Game#, Date/Time, or Location(Field).  Sorting by Game # will provide a list by division as the game numbers are encoded with division, home team, and visiting team numbers.
Want to know what you are assigned to?  Click My Games in the menu.
Check out the REPORTS section for useful game reports.
Want to provide feedback on a game you ref’d? You can come back into the system and click After Games to leave notes or even file an incident report.
The system will only allow you to assign yourself to games 5 days in advance.  Games will then automatically become available for sign-up.
